THE GREENSBORO DEPOT RAILROAD STATION

LOCATION INFORMATION
LOCATION INFORMATION

The Greensboro Depot Railroad Station is a rare surviving treasure of Gadsden County’s railroad heritage — the only depot on the historic Apalachicola Northern Railroad line that runs from River Junction in Gadsden County to Port St. Joe in Gulf County, Florida. Built in 1907, this historically significant building tells the story of the railroad’s profound role in shaping the economic and social life of western Gadsden County in the early 20th century.

When the depot faced demolition about 40 years ago, the West Gadsden Historical Society recognized the irreplaceable loss and campaigned successfully to save it. With the support of Progress Energy and St. Joe Land Company, the depot was relocated on September 7, 2007, to its current site adjacent to the railroad. A historic restoration grant funded careful rehabilitation and the construction of an adjoining meeting room.

Today, the Greensboro Depot Railroad Museum opens to the public on the first and last weekend of each month, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 PM — offering visitors a genuine connection to one of the defining transportation stories of North Florida’s past.
