The M.A. Love House is a virtually unchanged historic home in Quincy’s storied residential district — a quality that makes it a particularly valuable architectural time capsule of the late 19th-century domestic style that characterized the peak years of the tobacco-era prosperity that made Gadsden County famous. Built by William Carr for Meade Love, the house remained in Love family ownership for generations.
Meade, his brother “Rabe,” and brother-in-law A.T. Hearin operated Love and Hearin, a wholesale and retail business that was a fixture of Quincy’s commercial life. The home is now owned by Kenan Fishburne and Stephen Treacy, who have continued the tradition of respectful stewardship that has kept this remarkable property so well preserved.
In a Historic District celebrated for the quality and quantity of its 19th-century architecture, the M.A. Love House stands out for its exceptional integrity — a genuine window into the domestic life of prosperous Gadsden County during the golden years of the shade tobacco era.
