LOCATION INFORMATION
Part of the remarkable cluster of historic commercial buildings lining Quincy’s courthouse square, the A.L. Wilson Building represents a chapter in the story of one of Gadsden County’s most enduring and influential business families. The A. L. Wilson Company, established in 1881, was a cornerstone of Quincy’s commercial life for generations — a general merchandise business that grew alongside the tobacco industry and the broader prosperity of the county’s golden era.
The A.L. Wilson Company acquired the building that had previously housed the Quincy State Bank, incorporating it into their growing business empire as the bank relocated to the west end of the block. The building’s redesign created a center entrance on Washington Street leading to a brick walkway extending to the rear of the property.
For visitors exploring Gadsden County’s downtown, the A.L. Wilson Building is one of several interconnected properties whose overlapping histories tell the story of a community’s commercial development across more than a century of remarkable change.
