CENTENARY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

The property
LOCATION INFORMATION

With a Methodist congregation first organized in Quincy in 1829, Centenary United Methodist Church carries one of the oldest continuous religious histories in all of Gadsden County. The present structure was built in 1918 and remodeled in 1976, but it is the church’s extraordinary collection of stained glass windows — rightly considered one of the most outstanding in all of Florida — that draws visitors and admirers from across the region.

The crown of Centenary’s collection is a signed Tiffany window on the north side (Franklin Street), based on William Holman Hunt’s painting “The Light of the World.” Created by Louis C. Tiffany, whose lustrous, iridescent surfaces were achieved by varying the thickness of the glass, this masterwork depicts Christ knocking at the door of the human heart — a window of exceptional beauty and spiritual depth.

For visitors to Quincy’s Historic District, Centenary United Methodist Church offers a genuinely rare opportunity to experience world-class American art glass within a living, active congregation — an experience that stands among the finest of its kind in North Florida.
