FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

LOCATION INFORMATION
LOCATION INFORMATION

The First Presbyterian Church of Quincy stands as a living link to the very earliest days of organized religious life in Gadsden County, with roots stretching back to 1828 when the original congregation was organized five miles north of the current location. Known historically as the “Village Church,” it grew out of the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in 1833, moved to its Quincy location in the mid-19th century, and erected its first building on the current Madison Street site in 1845.

The present building was constructed in 1923. A Fellowship Hall and educational building were completed in 1960, and the Sanctuary building underwent remodeling in 1970, reflecting the congregation’s continued vitality and commitment to its historic urban presence. Located at 310 North Madison Street, the church is a distinguished component of Quincy’s remarkable collection of historic religious properties.

For visitors exploring Gadsden County’s extraordinary Historic District — with its concentration of antebellum and Victorian architecture unmatched elsewhere in Florida — First Presbyterian Church represents an important strand in the county’s rich tapestry of faith, community, and architectural heritage dating back nearly 200 years.
