At the heart of downtown Quincy’s vibrant arts scene stands the Quincy Music Theater — known to generations of Gadsden County residents as “The Leaf.” Built in October 1949 and opened by Hollywood cowboy icon Roy Rogers, The Leaf Theater was immediately the premier entertainment destination in North Florida’s Big Bend region.
Named for the shade-grown cigar wrapper tobacco leaf that made Gadsden County prosperous for over a century, the building’s original color scheme of pastel green and tobacco brown honored the industry that built downtown Quincy. With 1,022 seats including a balcony, the theater was the largest and most modern cinema in the area at opening. Community benefactors later purchased and donated the building to the Quincy Music Theatre, which transformed it into a world-class performing arts center featuring a state-of-the-art revolving stage.
Today, the Quincy Music Theater is North Florida’s largest all-musical community theater, producing five Broadway-style productions each season and hosting beloved summer theater camps for children and teens — entertaining audiences for over 75 years and showing no sign of slowing down.
