STOCKTON-CURRY HOUSE

The property
LOCATION INFORMATION

The Stockton-Curry House at 355 North DuVal Street is a superlative example of surviving antebellum Classic Revival architecture in Gadsden County, with a history that connects to two of the most prominent families in Quincy’s remarkable past. The house was purchased from its original owner Isaac Harris by Phillip A. Stockton — who came to Florida from Pennsylvania to establish a mail coach line running between St. Augustine and Mobile, settling in Quincy in the early 1840s.

The house subsequently passed to Martha Stockton Broome and was purchased in 1902 by the C.H. Curry family, whose expertise in the management of the shade tobacco industry brought continued prosperity and careful stewardship to this historic property. Four generations of the Curry family have called this house home — a testament to the deep family bonds and love of place that characterize Gadsden County at its best.

The Stockton-Curry House is an excellent example of surviving antebellum Classic Revival architecture, offering visitors to Quincy’s Historic District one of the clearest views of the domestic architectural tradition that flourished in the Florida Panhandle during the prosperous decades before the Civil War.
