The New Revelation Church of Christ at 407 N Adams Street in Quincy occupies a building with a fascinating layered history. The north section began as a Catholic chapel, constructed shortly after a mission was established here in 1909. When the mission closed in 1935, the Church of Christ acquired the property and extended the building on the south side to accommodate its congregation.
In a subsequent chapter that speaks to Quincy’s vibrant arts community, this building became a gallery for Gadsden Arts, Inc. — the organization that grew into the nationally accredited Gadsden Arts Center & Museum — before the arts organization relocated to the Bell & Bates Building on Madison Street. It was at that point that the New Revelation Church of Christ acquired this historic structure.
This building’s history — from Catholic chapel to Church of Christ to arts gallery to its current identity — encapsulates the dynamic, overlapping histories that give Gadsden County’s built environment such depth and character. A visit to this address is a walk through multiple chapters of Quincy’s religious, cultural, and community life spanning more than a century.
